Hello!

I am currently an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Computer Vision at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. I used to hold a position as Associate Professor at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil (2013 - 2022).

My research balances both computational challenges and their applications. Besides always aiming at excellence and impacting results in Computer Science, I am especially interested in inter-, cross-, multidisciplinary research. I see the connection with other areas of knowledge as an opportunity to develop cutting-edge research with high possibilities for impacting directly on economic, social, and environmental aspects.

My research interests include computer vision, machine learning, image processing, and remote sensing.

Prospective students: send me an email if you are interested in conducting research in these areas. Topics may include:

  • Out-of-Distribution (OOD) pixel detection and Open Set Recognition (OSR) for semantic segmentation
  • Synthetic data generation using deep generative models (e.g. GANs, VAEs, Normalizing Flows, etc) and graph-based algorithms
  • Interactive/Active/Online learning for large-scale semantic segmentation
  • Weakly-Supervised semantic segmentation
  • Data Fusion from multiple views (aerial, satellite and street-level) or multiple sensors (e.g. optical and radar)

Recent Outputs

  • A systematic review on open-set segmentation, Computers & Graphics. [link]
